Native people from across Maine – Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Mi’kmaq, and Maliseet – came together at summer resorts like Bar Harbor to sell their crafts and provide guiding services and entertainment to locals and summer visitors. A large Wabanaki encampment was located at the foot of Bar/Bridge Street, a short distance from the Mount Desert Reading Room.
